Hi Nicole. First of all: I love the doggie does vampire-style pic! I’ve been taking a look around your blog: you made me agree, you made me mad, you made me smile and you made me feel sad. Your blog certainly moves people in one way or another, which is really powerful! I still don’t know what to make of you though, well, a crazy chick obviously :-) but apart from that, I don’t know. And it probably isn’t my business in the first place. You write for you and the love of your current life and philosophy. I see you live in co-existence with your eating disorder, although not always peacefully, but it certainly gives you a special je ne sais quoi. I must honestly say that I was a little bit worried when I saw you suggesting to someone to restrict in a comment, but you cleared that reaction up in a follow-up comment, so now I think you really care about your readers/friends too. Not that that matters. In any case, I will keep on reading. Okay, now I’m a little bit afraid to post this comment (wussy people pleaser I am) and unleash a possible sarcastic wrath upon me :-) I’ll be scarirly looking forward to a reply.
- Sonja (WIAW, Vampire, 8th August, 2012)
Half a year later, and she’s one of my best, dearest friends to ever touch my life. Not only does she write for The Panel, but she’s a fellow pug mother and ‘Raw with Benefits‘ Foodie who sent the most gorgeous belated birthday pressie, which I just received yesterday, straight from Belgium!!!!!!!!!
Little Ms. Pressie Lover Gwendolyn, taking her paw to the gift! Impatient like her Mommy!
OMG. It is literally the perfect, most thoughtful gift.
Ayn Rand gin flask!
Gizmo T-shirt, like the one which I LOVED in Sonja’s inaugural post, “The Fat One.”
The most amazing notebook that I’ve ever owned.
A pretty card.
And a yoga girl sticker!!!
“Mommy, I approve.”
“Perhaps you can snap a photograph of my side profile, since it’s so beautiful?”
The most perfect notebook has inspired me to write that which I’ve been prolonging. Three books in progress, this pretty notebook shall house one of those three. It shall furthermore serve as daily reminder that fashion trumps food in terms of nourishment. And it shall keep me as a thin girl. Like Carrie Bradshaw.
Thank you, Sonja. I dedicate this book to you.
What is one gorgeous birthday surprise that you shall never forget?
Last year’s unforgettable surprise: From Jessica.

What an absolutely FABULOUS present! I love love love the Carrie Bradshaw quote…and how true it is! Vogue over food any day!
My cheeks were literally blushing as I slowly removed the package’s contents! Everything was right about it. Ask my friends and family. I am SO Rachel green and return practically every gift that I ever receive. Ha ha! Sonja is perfect!!!
YAY, it finally arrived! I was getting pretty pissed about our postal system because it took so long. Do you remember I had sent you a message somewhere in december saying I had found the perfect present for you,but that I had already sent you that pug sweater, so I would buy it for your birthday? It was the little notebook, I just had to get it for you. I totally disagree, and would buy bananas, apples, avocados, kale chips and what not before I would ever buy vogue, but it is so you and I love you. I hope it truly does inspire you to finish at least one of those books in 2013.
it’s really funny to reread my first real comment to you. you’re still batshit crazy and I love it. I’m going to repeat my apology for not being around lately. I’m currently at a place where I can’t really think too much about food or body in order to retain my sanity. I’m really chearing for your raw turn though, obviously, but I just can’t bring myself to any meaningful reflection on the subject, but know I’m always on your side. happy belated birthday!
I’m out with dogs in the freezing fucking cold, so I shall reply from my mushy heart later!!! I love you!!!
The other day, when I sent that international text message to you, it was because I had emailed a Shazam screen shot to you of a Counting Crows song that was playing in my automobile!!! And it returned as un-fucking-deliverable, and I was SO freaking sad because I thought that perhaps you had changed your email, banishing your “batshit crazy” friend from your life. :) Oh how happy I was to receive your reply! (and whoops, I forgot to reply, ha ha). And how happy I am to have your friendship. Your totally made my day yesterday with this pressie. I shall email you offline to describe of why. It all circles around friendship, as I lost a good friend yesterday. And I am SO passionate about my friends, so this token of your friendship and of you totally “getting” me means the absolute world. I love you!!!!!!!!!
hehe, once you get me, I’m a hard friend to lose, rest assured. can’t wait for that email, though I actually owe you one (or four). kisses!
How about one hundred billion email? :) Bahaha. I know this shall make you chuckle like a school girl…
Carrie Bradshaw is a dreadful role model and human being, and is nothing to aspire to. It is longer 1998 and women in their 30′s should be embarrassed to emulate a television character.
Aw, such gorgeous advice! Merci! ;)
That really is a cute T-shirt! I’m usually not a T-shirt kind of a girl when I go out, but I cannot resist those little pretty ones made out of comfy material. A girls got to dress cute even when relaxing at home.
That aside, yes, I will try to remember how much more delicious fashion is than all those binge food the next time I get that “urge to bolt”.
I suggest a weekend of Sex & the City viewing!!! I might declare this upcoming weekend as such! My ultimate style is a fabulous pair of jeans, a quirky graphic tshirt, and sky high heels. Paired with a chanel bag, my new gwendolyn locket, and pearl earrings. Love!
Reading Sonja’s post finally gave me the courage to leave a reply as well. I’ve been following your blog for ‘god’ knows how long, and just like Sonja, you gave me mixed emotions. They’re not important however, because no matter what, I keep coming back to your blog. In terms of eating disorders, I try to follow the same approach as you do. I’m not sure I believe in recovery, but you have made it more than obvious that managing it is possible. I used to read Sonja’s blog as well, I was quite happy she was so ‘nearby’ (I live in the Netherlands)..it’s sad that she no longer uses her blog, but I’m glad she joined the panel. The notebook is wonderful, although I’m not one of fashion sense..Big jumpers and what-not to hide my jiggly fat..
Hugs to Gwendolyn, one of the most prettiest dogs on the web!
This is my favourite comment ever left @ NicoleAndGwendolyn.com. Thank you, from both of us. :)
This gift is perfect for you. What a wonderful friendship you have created!! Happy Belated Birthday to you as well, I assume it’s passed already. I must know when it is seeing as it’s the same month as mine!! You look as sassy and sexy as you did years ago!!
Yes! We are both Amethysts! My birthday is the ninth of February. :) xoxoxoxoxo
Those presents are absolutely ideal for you :)
When I first read your blog I was really excited because I’d finally found someone who said what everyone else was thinking…who was confident and really/willing to defend her strong opinions, not just another nodding ‘yes person,’ which the blogging world has a serious surplus of.
I’m not quite bold enough to post the way that you do all the time, but I hope to be one day! I’m so happy you and Sonja both ‘found’ each other :)
xxx
And guess what! Sonja and I found each other through you!!!!!!!!!
It was to YOU that I recommended restriction.
And it was because of my recommendation that Sonja visited NicoleAndGwendolyn.com.
I am grateful to you for so much… especially for continuing our friendship despite my fat. ;)
Did you see that I linked back to your pressie from last year? I am currently viewing the artwork. It still takes my breath away. It always shall.
I love you forever and always. You are one of my longest and oldest friendships. xo
Sonja is a gift giving genius…perfect!! xo
I want to hug Sonja right this very moment!!! (not just because of my glass of wine which is turning into two very shortly!).
And if this were three years from now, when my business is being managed by me, operationally run by employees, I would book a flight and be there tomorrow evening European time (it’s 10pm here now). And of course Gwendolyn would need to be classified as an emotional support dog so that she could have her very own seat on the plane. :) xo
What fabulous gifts! What a nice friend :-)
To every action, there is always an equal and opposite reaction. Remember the rubbish that happened yesterday with friendship? This is the ultimate counter:) xo heart ud.!!!
I second that, Sonja totally gets you : )
She gets me in every single freaking way. And perhaps it’s not so much of “getting me” but more so of thinking on a higher, more subjective level. When I read her words, I don’t feel anxious, annoyed, or alien-like, which are frequent feelings when reading criticism / analysis by others. When I read her words, I think “Charlotte York.” … “She is my Charlotte York.” And that is precisely the perfect match for me. :) xo
Sonja is amazing! The most considerate and lovely gifts ever!
Once I got an awesome gift from my internet friend too! It was a card of the simple black dress. But it was so on spot of everything I was and was passionate about – I framed it! It inspires me everyday.
Thank You.
This morning, I awoke to your comment, and it made my heart so happy!
Wink wink wink! :)
