i am SO PLEASED to announce that gwendolyn is the big, beautiful, happy sister of our new, sweet, little adoptee!!! :):):)
antoinette was the ugly duckling of the patch . . .
and i know she wanted a puggle sister . . .
and a puggle sister she can now claim!!!
we saved antoinette from the traditional thanksgiving meal. and typing this makes me want to cry because my heart is so warmed and happy.
antoinette, welcome to the family. :)
yes. we adopted a turkey.
the exbulimic pesco-vegan life is wonderful!!!
millions of turkeys suffer terribly at this time of year. happily, Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt-a-Turkey Project provides several ways to celebrate turkeys and combat the cruelty. this year, Ellen DeGeneres is returning as spokesperson for Adopt-a-Turkey, encouraging Americans to save, not eat a turkey! here’s how you can get involved:
Sponsor a Turkey
participate by sponsoring a turkey and telling all of your friends about it on Facebook and Twitter! To see a gallery of Farm Sanctuary’s adoptable turkeys, go here. depending on how much you’d like to give, you can sponsor a single turkey or an entire flock! gobble gobble of happiness! you can also make a simple donation to Adopt-a-Turkey here.
please adopt a turkey!
it’s so KIND, and it will give you something to discuss at Thanksgiving Dinner with the family. :)
what do you think about our new family member??? please tell us about your planned thanksgiving kindness! :)
xoxo

Very cute!! I need to look into this:) Do you plan on enjoying tofurkey?
That is wonderful Nicole! Adopt-a-Turkey sounds like a fantastic project.
Being vegetarians in my family, we eat tofurky for thanksgiving :)
i posted this link to an earlier comment, but here is my upcoming planned tofurkey recipe!
http://planthappylife.blogspot.com/2011/11/thanksgiving-with-friends-2011-recipe.html.
and i’m so “meat trashy” that i will dip it into ketchup. so much more pleasing to me than gravy!
well, it’s my current intention to prepare a vegan feast on friday, including tofurkey; but i know that i’ll probably chicken out and just eat tofu or sushi. haha!
(i’m required to attend a party on thanksgiving).
as of right now, here is the friday vegan feast plan:

how about you???
antoinette! i love the name :)
so sweet of you!!
adopting a turkey really makes me feel happy! :)
i got the idea from alicia silverstone’s website; and due to ellen’s endorsement, i sealed the adoption deal!
only $30!
definitely do it! :)

I am grateful that we do not celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK because I would feel so sad that Turkeys would have to suffer twice: then and at xmas.
Adoptng a turkey sounds like a wonderful idea – trust the amazing Ellen to emphasise it – I love that woman! :)

i LOVE ellen and digitally record her show every single day! it makes me laugh SO hard!
you have such a big heart! i am glad that my friends also care about the turkeys. :) x
Scene: Upcoming Thanksgiving Dinner with 20 or 30 family members.
8 year old Jimmy: “Where is the turkey?”
Me: “We are not having turkey this year.”
Jimmy: “Why do you hate us? Did we do something wrong?”
Me: “No Jimmy, I don’t hate you guys and you did nothing wrong. I just wanted something to talk about this year.”
Jimmy: “I see, well mission accomplished. We can all now talk about how much we hate you.” (murmurs of agreement around the giant table)
eight-year-old jimmy knows not to challenge me on anything food related. ;)
He’s little, I think you can take him. And then if you give him a cookie later (and don’t tell him what’s not in it) he may even forget about the beating. Cookies go a long way (with dogs, children, and me… hmm…).
That’s really thoughtful of you, Nicole. While I don’t eat the turkey on Thanksgiving, my family does. I realize the tradition of it and respect their decision, I just don’t like it. I think this is a really cool idea and thanks for sharing because I didn’t even know you could do something like this.
yes, my family also enjoys the gobbler! i absolutely respect the consumption rights of others . . . and, accordingly, i expect for others to respect mine. because most people don’t understand the vegan diet (and i take mine to the next level as a pesco vegan), i normally get a pretty hard time! but having fun things like this to discuss definitely piques interest, and it encourages people to learn more about such a beautiful cruelty free diet. :)
Hahaha I nearly lost my mind laughing when you said you adopted a turkey!!! I thought you had it at home… then I scrolled down the page.
xx
bahahaha! bridget, i nearly lost my mind laughing at your passionate comment!!!
gobble gobble! :) xxx
I love that your turkey named Antoinette – so fancy :)
the fanciest turkey in the world! :) x
I love that you adopted one! I am adopting one too, but I haven’t decided, I keep looking at all the photos and just can’t choose which one, haha. But congratulations for doing this, and also for blogging about it…the more awareness there is, the better!! Hugs!
jillian, i am looking forward to your post, announcing your new little adoptee! xxx
so cute, Nikki! i thought at first you bought another puggle…I was going to be uber excited!
i want a shelter beagle, so badly!
but that will be much too difficult for new york!
it’ll just be me and gwendolyn in the big apple! :) x
Very cool! But I would expect nothing less from such unique gals!
unique! aw! how sweet! :)
I honestly was thinking you’d adopted another dog! And then i scrolled down and saw the turkey… I spat coffee, I laughed so hard. But what a wonderful and kind idea. I’ve never heard of adopting a turkey before, maybe that’s because we don’t have Thanksgiving in Australia (and I’m so jealous lol)(I really like the idea too, of being thankful for our lives and our loved ones and our blessings)
I know you won’t have this dilemma… but I am wondering how one talks about adopting a turkey while eating a turkey…
LOL xx
LOL! i am so happy that my turkey adoption brought laughter to your day, fiona!!!
my sister also suspected that my announcement involved a dog adoption!
but one high maintenance puggle butt in new york will be enough to care for!
hahaha! :) x
I adopted Victoria last Sunday… I’m so proud!
Actually I find Antoinette quite beautiful. But Payton…Haha!
I’d love to sponser Elizabeth, but I’ll think about it a little more$!!
Definitively will become my new Thanksgiving tradition!
Happy Thanksgiving Nicole and thanks for your kind action:)

love love love love love!!! <3
Actually, I finally sponser Liz last night…
My mom’s Xmas present in advance!
I’m so glad:)
Hope you enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving yesterday!
Take care,
Val, Vic and Liz!!! :) xx
that is such a beautiful christmas gift for your mother!!! congratulations on saving a precious little birdie! :)
here’s an idea for you! . . .
last year, i scavenged the local cigar shop for cool cigar boxes (and bought them for $1 per box *except for when gwendolyn came with me. the shop owner thought she was SO cute that he gave a bunch to me, for free!!! haha! never leave home without a puggle!).
inside of each cigar box, i placed the proof of donation that i gifted to each of my family members. the donations were to the local animal friends. i might to do something similar this year, but to the american humane society.
i am so happy to meet your kind acquaintance! thank you, alicia silverstone, for connecting us! :)
